Weekend Getaway in Liberty County

Spring is quickly approaching, which for a lot of people means a busier schedule. Spring sports, holidays, spring break, school functions and the list goes on and on for upcoming activities. Now is the perfect time for a weekend getaway to relax and soak up a little “me time” before things get hectic! Get out for some time with friends, a significant other or even by yourself!

Settle in for a weekend of fun and unpack your bags at one of our local hotels. A “staycation” is the way to go! No endless hours in the car waiting to pass a gas station you don’t mind stopping at to pee! You will love the spacious suites offered at the LaQuinta or the comfortable accommodations at Fairfield Inn & Suites. You could also head out to our coastline and book a room at Dunham Farms for a very peaceful stay.

Kick things off with breakfast at Izola’s Country Café in Hinesville. Everyone needs a hearty breakfast before a glorious day of shopping and exploring! Breakfast is made fresh every morning, and you’ll have your pick of everything from pancakes to biscuits and gravy!

Hinesville is loaded with shopping options including clothing boutiques, gift shops and even some places with homemade goodies perfect for a unique shopping experience. The downtown district of Hinesville features a lot of locally owned small businesses like Charming Chics, Emma Jane’s, Pro Feet, Molly Maxine and Martin Mercantile. Handmade jewelry, clothing, shoes, home décor and more fill these stores with goodies you won’t want to go home without!

While you’re in downtown Hinesville be sure to explore the historic buildings like the Old Liberty County Jail or pop over to Bryant Commons Park for some fresh air. You’ll also find the Hinesville Area Arts Council Gallery in downtown Hinesville which is housed in the same building as Martin Mercantile. What could be better than shopping and art all in one place?!?

If you’re looking for lunch, Zum Rosenhof German Restaurant is a local favorite and the perfect place to fuel up for the rest of your day. You will find a mouthwatering menu filled with authentic German dishes and a restaurant decked out in everything German!

Ready for more shopping? Head over to Hinesville’s newest shopping center, Oglethorpe Square where you’ll find TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby, Ulta, PetSmart, 5 Below and Dick’s Sporting Goods. You’ll be sure to find a new must-have look or even a treat for your furry family member. After a long day shopping, visit Stella Nail Lounge for a relaxing pedicure or manicure before heading off to dinner.

Oglethorpe Square has plenty of food options for dinner like Chick-fil-A if you want something to go or have a sit-down meal at Longhorn’s Steakhouse. Make sure you leave room for dessert and stop by Polar Sweets in the neighboring shopping center. If you’ve never had hand-rolled ice cream you are in for a sweet treat and show as they make each order at the front counter!

To get you going on day 2 of your weekend, stop in at Krispy Kreme for coffee and donuts before making your way to our coast. One of the best things about Liberty County is how intertwined our incredible history is with the natural beauty of our coastal community. You’ll find an example of this perfect combination in Riceboro at the Historical Baptismal Trail. The serenity and peace you will feel as you take a stroll down the boardwalk is something hard to recreate!

Another great boardwalk to explore is at Cay Creek Wetlands Interpretive Center located in Midway. Explore the changes in flora and fauna as you explore down the boardwalk moving from the fresh water swamp to the brackish water of the creek. A 15-foot watchtower located on the trail gives a birds-eye view of the scenery.

After working up an appetite exploring the great outdoors, stop by Smokin’ Pig for an incredible lunch. Their menu is full of delicious BBQ meats and all the homemade fixin’s you could ever ask for! Fill your afternoon with more history at our state historic site, Fort Morris. The 1-mile walking trail gives breathtaking views of our barrier island, St. Catherines, and circles the earthenwork walls of the old fort. Although the museum is closed on Sundays, you will find markers throughout the site to give you an insight to the history made there.

This local hotspot features a menu focused around the freshest seafood you can find! Whether you’re craving a basket of wild Georgia shrimp fried to perfection or you’re after a bucket of blue crabs caught that day, they have it! If you’re up for one more stroll after dinner, the views from the Sunbury dock are unbeatable!!
