4 Places You Did Not Know You Can Kayak At In Liberty County
The weather is warming up and school will be out soon! This means it’s time to go outside and get some sun! One of our favorite outdoor activities is kayaking along the lazy creeks and rivers that run through our coastal community. Whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned pro kayaking in Liberty County is definitely worth the experience. Get your friends together, pack a cooler and hit the water for a fun activity you’ll want to do every weekend! Here are a few places to sit back and relax on your weekend afternoons while you float along the coastal waterways!
Jones Creek Park
2059 Isle of Wight Road, Midway GA
Just before crossing the bridge to Isle of Wight in Midway, there’s a gorgeous park with a small landing for access to the water. Kayakers with some experience will enjoy putting in their boats here and paddling around Jones Creek. Pack a cooler and paddle out to a sandbar for lunch. This is a tidal creek, so be sure to check the tides before you head out, you don’t want to get stuck dragging your kayak through the mud! As you head in for the evening, be sure to check out the sky as the sun sets. The colors are truly remarkable!
Dunham Farms
5836 Islands Highway, Sunbury GA
Dunham Farms offers guided tours through Dickinson Creek. Take advantage of the opportunity to experience flat water kayaking at this coastal bed & breakfast. With a guide who’s experienced not only with kayaking, but also the local ecosystem and history, it’s the perfect adventure for anyone who may be new to kayaking or Liberty County. Riceboro Dock
Insterstate Paper Road, Riceboro GA
Turn off Hwy 17, to find another public dock and pier. You can spend the day kayaking this small creek that feeds into the larger Cay Creek. This particular spot is a local favorite for fishing, so be sure to bring your tackle box and fishing pole. You and your friends can have double the fun catching a delicious dinner while you soak up a few rays!
Sunbury Crab Company
541 Brigantine-Dunmore Road, Midway GA
The public Sunbury Dock is open after being damaged a while back so the chance to paddle around Sunbury from this access point is sure to bring you a weekend full of fun! Or head down the road a bit to the Sunbury Crab Company to rent a kayak and enjoy a beautiful day of ocean kayaking. This spot has direct access to the intracoastal waterway, so keep those tides in mind here, too! You can venture through the marsh and relax in the sun. Schools of dolphins are known to frequent this area, so keep your eyes open! Come back and order some fresh seafood and a cold beverage when you’re done!
