5 Easy Steps to Making Peach Butter
If you’ve been getting Farmers Market Subscription Boxes the last 8 weeks you’ve likely gotten some delicious Georgia peaches. If you haven’t you can still go buy peaches locally from the Fleming Fruit Stand on Hwy 196. These delicious and sweet fruits are not only the Georgia state fruit, they are also a huge industry in our state.
We’ve come up with all kinds of uses for peaches in the last several weeks, but one of our favorites has hands down been peach butter! So here you go in 5 easy steps!
#1 Break out the crockpot and wash your peaches (8-10 large for a small crockpot)
#2 Peel your peaches and give them a rough chop like the photo below.
#3 Toss the peaches in the crockpot, along with 1 cup of sugar, the juice of 1 lemon & ½ cup of water. Set crockpot to low for 2.5 hours with the lid on.
#4 Use an immersion blender to blend the peaches in the pot. Leave them in the crockpot & offset the lid with a wooden spoon and cook another 3-4 hours on low.
#5 The peach butter may have reached the consistency you desire at this point, it should be like apple butter. However, if it has not, you can buy a package of SureJell & follow the directions on the package. This will really depend on the ripeness of the peaches and how much juice they contain.
And just like that you’re done! Now grab some jars & store in the fridge for up to 1 month. This makes a great summertime hostess gift or a “just because” gift for your neighbor. Enjoy!
