5 Reasons to Drive To and Not Through Liberty County

Draped in natural beauty and oozing with southern charm, Liberty County’s rich history is a hidden gem that makes for a perfect Georgia vacation. As a longtime resident of this extremely unique community, we have done our best to compile a list of our favorite reasons you should drive to and not through our home while taking advantage of some of the things we may miss.

Breathtaking views are not hard to come by. Spanish moss-draped trees lining the streets throughout this coastal town provide the best shade for a picnic or a nap on the lawn. Sunrise and sunset make for a picturesque moment beautiful enough to take your breath away. You do not have to be a professional photographer to see the splendor of our home, the natural beauty is boundless.

The coast is the perfect playground for those who enjoy being out on the water. Early on a Saturday, you’re sure to find the locals enjoying the day in whatever creek or river they can find. BYOB: Bring Your Own Boat!

The history is rich in Liberty County. The coastal county was established in 1777 with Sunbury as its county seat. Over the course of the last 240 years Liberty County has been home to two signers of the Declaration of Independence, played a role in the Revolutionary & Civil Wars and was even a stop for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement.

The food is as diverse as the population. Being a coastal community, you can find fresh seafood at the Sunbury Crab Company or Melody’s Coastal Café. If you are in search of some southern BBQ, The Smokin Pig or Sho’Nuff Smokin Good BBQ are sure to leave you asking for more.
There is nothing quite like the southern charm of native Liberty County residents. Right in the heart of the South, we are home to a place where neighbors know each other by name and we wave hello to each other as cars drive by. Somewhat of a melting pot, thanks to our neighboring Ft. Stewart, we maintain our small-town charm. Our friends are always anxious to provide our visitors with the maximum amount of comfort and relaxation. Scattered throughout Hinesville and out to the coast are some of the finest restaurants offering the best in Southern fare, colonial homes, locally owned boutiques and historic museums.
A jewel tucked along coastal Georgia is definitely worth a visit. No one is in a hurry, food is slow-cooked and sopping in butter and you can experience the hospitality in every interaction. We are inviting you to explore and enjoy this southern wonderland!
