Getting to Know Phyllis Taylor
Continuing with our “Getting to Know the Chamber Staff” series this week we sat down with our Program Coordinator, Phyllis Taylor. This series of blogs will focus on our staff so you can get a better understanding of who you’re chatting with on the phone, meeting at a luncheon or networking with at Business After Hours.
Prior to joining us here, Phyllis was a Program and Management Analyst for the Plans, Analysis & Integration Office at Fort Stewart. Now she wears a couple of hats here, one focuses on program coordination for the Coastal Georgia Military Affairs Coalition and the other as a top-notch helper for Chamber events, along with occasionally assisting with finance. She began volunteering with the Chamber/CGMAC about 2 years ago after retiring as a way to stay engaged and give back to the community.
She spends about 20 hours a week with us, but she gets a lot done in those 20 hours. Her day-to-day includes organizing Facebook posts with upcoming events or relevant articles for the CGMAC page and writing a monthly newsletter for the members. Phyllis is also responsible for coordinating the CGMAC Board of Directors meetings and bi-monthly member meetings. From her years of experience, she has become a master minute taker for meetings. Aside from her responsibilities for CGMAC Phyllis is extremely helpful with all of our Chamber events, whether it is helping to prep for events or washing tablecloths after luncheons, she is willing to do it all.
From May to September, Phyllis spends a good amount of her time volunteering as a senior examiner for the National Malcolm Baldridge Program which evaluates organizations for performance excellence. Even though she is technically “retired” she likes to stay busy! Aside from all her volunteering she also enjoys taking care of her fur babies. She has a real passion for rescuing and taking care of animals.
Having lived here for over 30 years, there is a lot she has come to love about Liberty County. Shopping local has become one of her favorite things to do. She is a frequent customer at Charming Chics Boutique, where she finds all her stylish outfits and Martin Mercantile to check out all the local handmade goods. When she is not out shopping, you can find her reading historical novels such as those written by her favorite author, Martha Hall Kelly.
Mrs. Phyllis is originally from Pittsburgh and is a big supporter of all Pittsburgh’s sports teams. The best way to get her talking is to ask her about the Pirates, Penguins or the Steelers.
Mrs. Phyllis is always willing to help with anything that is asked of her, and is a dedicated member of our team. We are so grateful for all her hard work.
