Leadership Liberty Explained
In Liberty County, we take pride in investing in our residents. In fact, the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce offers a leadership program that’s open to all Liberty County residents. Leadership Liberty is a nine-month adult leadership class for anyone who lives or works in Liberty County and wants to learn how to become more involved in our community. If you’re looking to take the next step to become a leader in the community and help us create a better future for all residents, then this is the class for you!
What is Leadership Liberty?
The goal of Leadership Liberty is to create and grow the next leaders of Liberty County through education and information about the resources available in our county. Leadership Liberty inspires future community leaders for public service through training and skill-building opportunities. Those who go through the program receive a thorough understanding of community and economic development, while gaining a deeper appreciation for the rich, cultural history of Liberty County.
Who can apply?
Leadership Liberty is open to anyone who wishes to create a positive impact on our community and has a passion for making our home a better place for all. Program attendees will go on to become leaders and shape the future of our county, region and state. The program seeks to increase diversity in leadership positions throughout the county by involving the diverse residents of our county. Applicants of all ages, races, genders and professions are encouraged to apply. However, the selection process is highly specific as we are looking to develop established, promising and potential community leaders. Applications will open on July 1, 2023. The deadline to apply is August 25, 2023 or when we reach class capacity of fifteen (15), whichever comes first. Participants are selected on a first-come first-served basis once the application process has opened.
Class participants take part in an intense 9-month class, meeting at least once per month and learning about various functions of the community to include:
- County Government
- City Government
- Public Health
- Public Education
- Tourism
- Economic Development and much more.
There is also a session that includes overnight travel to Atlanta to watch state government in action and meet with elected leaders.
How much does it cost?
Tuition for Leadership Liberty is $1,000 for the entire session and includes:
- All overnight & food accommodations.
- Transportation to Atlanta.
Since its inception with the 2004-2005 class Leadership Liberty has graduated approximately 100 participants who either live or work in Liberty County. These participants have garnered knowledge from various sectors of the community, as well as taken part in the leadership modules provided by the Fanning Institute of Leadership at the University of Georgia.

I believe it is very valuable learning how local government entities work and the huge challenges a growing community like Liberty County faces. Leadership Liberty can provide insight on the job our elected officials have to do and how important non-governmental organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce are to the success of our county,” said Chamber CEO Leah Poole.
