Learn the Secret to a Spiced German Cocktail here in Liberty County
What better way to warm up the chilly season but with a toasty German cocktail! If you want to enjoy an authentic German experience this upcoming holiday season, be sure to visit downtown Hinesville’s very own Zum Rosenhof! Located on Midway Street, this German owned restaurant serves traditional food and beverages. And one of the more traditional fall/winter beverages in Germany is a spiced wine called Glühwein. Glühwein is a mulled wine and can be served hot or warm. This German beverage is usually made with red wine but can certainly be made with white if you prefer! With this recipe, you can experience Germany right from your front porch!
Here is what you need to make Zum Rosenhof’s delicious Glühwein:
- 1 bottle wine, burgundy
- 1/2 liter of water
- 5-6 bags of glühfix
- 3 sticks of cinnamon
- 1 orange cut into 1/4 slices
- 3/4 cups of sugar
Put everything in a pot and heat it up for at least 20 minutes or even hours in a slow cooker! Be sure not to boil! Then pour into a fall mug and enjoy! Das ist lecker!
Glühfix is a naturally pure mulled wine spice mixture that can be bought at Zum Rosenhof’s very own German grocery store! SpeiseKammer (German for pantry) is right next door to Zum Rosenhof in downtown Hinesville and is filled with imported goodies such as sweets, beer, meats, seasonings and even healthcare items! Just pop on in and purchase the ingredients you need. Maybe even stop by Zum Rosenhof and try the spiced wine before you make it yourself!
