Let’s Take A Walk Around Liberty County
A walking path can be found throughout Liberty County, whether you are along the lake at Bryant Commons or in Riceboro retracing the steps of our ancestors. The cooler weather is a welcome reprieve from the heat and humidity of summer! It’s nice when the temperature finally drops, and we can enjoy the outdoors even more. Below you will find four places in Liberty County to embrace the cooler weather, take a walk through history and enjoy our beautiful scenery!
Cay Creek Wetlands Interpretive Center
Take a stroll down the boardwalk and explore the beautiful transition of ecosystems as you get closer to Cay Creek. You will notice a change in the plants as well as the wildlife. A 15-foot watchtower gives you the perfect view of the creek, as well as a perch to watch the birds and other wildlife found at the creek. Round trip on the boardwalk is 7/10th of a mile, so perfect for squeezing in a quick walk after work!

Did you know there’s a passive park right in the middle of Hinesville? Bryant Commons is a public park open from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year. It has many features including fishing ponds, a dog park, playground, amphitheater, Veterans Memorial Walk, the ITPA Telephone Museum and a one-mile walking trail around the big pond. Even though it is located in the city, it is a very peaceful and quiet area to take a relaxing stroll.

Take a stroll back in time and discover the earthen works at this Revolutionary War fort tucked away in Midway. Fort Morris held its ground against the British during the American Revolution under the leadership of Col. John McIntosh initially. In addition to seeing the fort you will also have an incredible view of St. Catherines Island, Liberty County’s barrier island, and see plenty of wildlife! History and nature go hand in hand here in Liberty County!

If you are looking for a serene walk through nature, the Historic Baptismal Trail is just the place for you. Located in Riceboro, the trail was once walked by African American church members going to the river to be baptized in the Christian faith. The First African Baptist Church utilized this location as an active holy place from the 1840s until the 1940s. The current trail also has a boardwalk that allows you to follow the steps of those who have come before and feel the deep connection that still holds with this location.
