Making an entrance back to Liberty County

Hey y’all! It’s the newest employee of the Liberty County Convention & Visitors Bureau (LCCVB) speaking out. My name is Delese Garrett, and I wanted to tell everyone a little about myself and why I love Liberty County.  I was raised in Fleming, which many may not know is in Liberty County. I am a mother to three amazing little boys, I also recently got out the Army, which was a career that I loved. Unfortunately, due to injuries I was medically discharged. It wasn’t my choice; however, I am a firm believer everything happens for a reason.  I go to school full time at Columbia College for Human Services, which you would think being a mom of three boys and going to school would be enough for me.  Nope, not the case at all!  I needed more, I needed to get out and be a part of something.  I came across this job opportunity, hesitant of how I would be able to do it in amidst all of the other things I have going on.  Once again, I believe everything happens for a reason.  I told myself if I got the job, it was meant to be.  I applied for the job. My phone rang two days later to schedule an interview, I went to the interviews (there were MANY of them), and I got the job! YAY!

I took this job not knowing what I would be doing, honestly.  Pretty insane, huh?  It’s been a few days working as the LCCVB Program Assistant. That’s my official title y’all!   I can whole-heartedly say I love it.  I never knew Liberty County had so much to offer.  I didn’t know there was even an organization that did everything we do. WE! I can say we because I am a part of the team now! The history that Midway, Flemington, Riceboro, Walthourville, Allenhurst, Gumbranch and Hinesville has to offer locals and visitors is mind blowing.  I highly encourage you to invest your free time in coming to see us at our BEAUTIFUL offices located in downtown Hinesville and let me tell you all about Liberty County. If you don’t live here, come visit! The Liberty County CVB will be honored to help navigate you through the beautiful terrains our county has to offer.

Okay, Okay back to me!  I was born and raised in the south.  I am not afraid to sweat, get muddy, or even take a tree limb to the face every now and then riding four-wheelers around the hunting club.  I love to be outdoors.  Hunting, fishing, kayaking, hiking and exploring are things I thoroughly enjoy doing.  Guess what?  Liberty County offers all of that.  Listen, like I stated previously I love, and I mean love to eat!  The local mom & pop restaurants around here are amazing.  There is a little diner in Midway called Angie’s Diner, you can get pancakes as big as your face! The service is great and very welcoming.  The Sunbury Crab Company is a local seafood restaurant that’s located on the water. The food is out of this world good and you get a breathing taking view of coastal Georgia (and did you know that it was listed in Coastal Living this year as one of the Top 10 Seafood Dives in America?!). Izola’s Country Café is another personal favorite.  If you want southern cuisine, that is the place to go for breakfast or lunch.  It’s just taking the time for most people, stepping out your comfort zone  and trying these places.

There is always something going on.  Event after event! Liberty County is the site for numerous large scale events every year and seriously there’s something going on every weekend to fit your interest.  These events are great for marketing businesses, meeting/connecting with people and just bringing the community together as one.

In the last few days, a lot has been brought to my attention that normally doesn’t cross my mind.  When I was younger I couldn’t wait to move and get out of here.  I grew up, I moved away, and guess what? I’m back!  I realized I really love where I am from.  I love the southern hospitality, the scenery, the people, the food and all the history that Liberty County has to offer.  I think Liberty County is unique because it gives off this small-town persona, while in reality it is so much more than just a small town.  Liberty County takes pride in the local military, law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics/EMTs.  We encourage everyone to get involved and be a part of the community.  Liberty County takes pride in the people who live here. We want to keep the environment/community clean and beautiful! After all Liberty County has some of the most natural historical sites and parks.  We even strive to make visitors feel welcome and at home, so they will want to return in the future.

I will be blogging regularly now about some of my favs, as well as the favorites of some of our more colorful local characters. I hope you enjoy and be sure to submit your favorites to me if you would like to be featured! You can email me at tourism@libertycounty.org or give me a buzz, I’d love to chat, 912-368-3580!
