Travel is…

LaQuinta Inn & SuitesCompleting the sentence “Travel is________.” was the theme of this year’s National Travel & Tourism Week. We celebrated our industry this week with several events to promote tourism to our county, welcome our visitors and thank our hotels, motels & B&Bs for providing accommodations to our visitors.

Our first stop was at our historical & cultural sites, where we dropped off goody bags filled with fun promotional products and info about our county for the staff to give to visitors during the week as a warm welcome to the community. On May 6th, also know as Travel Rally Day, we headed out to the baseball game at the Liberty County Recreation Department to hand out candy and prizes to everyone who told us why they are “Liberty County proud” and then signed our poster. As you can imagine, we were a hit, especially with the candy! It was great to see kids and adults alike at a family-friendly event and let them know why travel & tourism is important to our community.

Later in the week, we hosted a BBQ for the owners, managers and employees of our area hotels, motels and B&Bs. Despite the rain, everyone had a good time and it was nice to show some hospitality to those who are in the business and are on the front lines of welcoming our visitors. We had everyone who attended the BBQ write down what travel means to them and no two answers were alike.

We’re excited to see what the future holds for Liberty County’s tourism and travel industry. At the CVB, we’ll be working hard to show people how we’re the right blend of contemporary culture, history & heritage. Travel is so many different things to many different people. For us, it’s a way of life and we wouldn’t change it for anything.
