Civic organizations serve a vital role in any community they serve, and they are often made up of volunteers and staff from the local area. This allows them to gain a first-hand account of what is needed, and they can often find creative ways to bring the public together and achieve greatness. Keep reading to learn about a few such organizations in Liberty County and how you can become more involved.

What is a Civic Organization

According to Law Insider: “A civic organization is any local service club, veterans’ post, fraternal society or association, volunteer fire or rescue groups, or local civic league or association of ten or more persons not organized for profit but operated exclusively for educational or charitable purposes as defined herein, including the promotion of community welfare, and the net earnings of which are devoted exclusively to charitable, educational, recreational or social welfare purposes.”

Get Involved

Becoming involved with a civic organization through volunteering is a rewarding experience. Many volunteer activities give you the chance to try things you’ve never done before and learn new skills. Volunteers find themselves with new motivation and insights when they dedicate their time to local charitable organizations.

Local Civic Organizations

  • United Way of Coastal Empire- Liberty County– United Way has several programs such as Backpack Buddies, an initiative that serves over 500 local school children every week. This

    awesome initiative provides two nutritious meals and a snack to help combat weekend food insecurities. If you are willing to transport bags weekly to local schools or want to become involved in one of their other many initiatives then be sure to check them out online.

  • Kiwanis Club of Liberty County– According to their national website, “Kiwanis strives to be a positive influence in communities worldwide. — so that one day, all children will wake up in communities that believe in them, nurture them and provide the support they need to thrive.” Our local club has dedicated its efforts to inclusivity for all children! They’re fundraising efforts are going to provide inclusive playground equipment at local parks. They do this through their many fundraising events such as a Jail & Bail and Surf & Turf Poker Run.
  • Atlantic Area C.A.S.A.– Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are officers of the court who are empowered to make a lifelong difference in the lives of abused and neglected children in foster care. CASA volunteers come from all walks of life. Some have years of professional and educational experience working with children and families. Some grew up in foster care and have ridden the rollercoaster of emotions that come from frequent moving. Many, however, simply have a desire to help children who have been abused and neglected find safe, permanent homes.  Being a CASA volunteer does not require any special background or education.   • Hinesville Rotary Club- This network of neighbors, business leaders and friends all strive to see a world where people unite to create lasting change not only in their local communities but across the globe. The Hinesville Rotary Club often spearheads and collaborates on community projects such as the Little Free Libraries which inspire children to fall in love with reading. A current ongoing project the club is working on is Sleep in Heavenly Peace. This collaborative effort will build and deliver beds to children who don’t have beds to sleep in.
