Film in Liberty County

Liberty County is proud to be a part of one of Georgia’s largest industries. Wondering what it is? If you guessed film, you’re right! We love having the opportunity to play a part in productions, no matter the size, because of the benefits they bring. We wanted to tell y’all a little bit about filming so you can learn the in’s and out’s as the popularity of our area continues to grow. Keep reading to get a quick preview.

We are Camera Ready!

The Liberty County Convention and Visitors Bureau just so happens to be the CameraReady liaison. What does this mean? We are the point of contact for production crews to get…

  • All necessary permits

  • Resources needed while visiting

  • General information about the area

Scouting Requests

The most common way that a production ends up in Liberty County is through an inquiry from a film scout for a specific type of location. Once we receive a request, we head out on an adventure to find what they are looking for and gather all of the photos and information we can get. This is what catches the eyes of the producers, so we are always happy to go on a field trip whenever necessary. They don’t come in at specific times and each one is unique, so they definitely keep us on our toes.

Why Film Matters

One of the biggest reasons that we advocate for the film industry is because it benefits all of the citizens in our community. When cast and crews come into town, they spend lots of money for the duration of their trip before heading back home. This is called “clean economic development” and it saves each tax paying household in the county hundreds of dollars each year. The rise in tax savings and economic impact from filming can be measured by the increased amount of tourism dollars from year to year.

Why Film in Liberty County?Dirt Road Film in Liberty County

One of our greatest physical assets to the film industry are our beautiful dirt roads. In the past, productions have had to haul truckloads of dirt into downtown Savannah to create the unpaved roads. Several years ago, scouts and producers realized that they could find dirt roads lined with Spanish moss right here!

The state of Georgia offers a 30% tax incentive to filmmakers who do business here. In addition to that, Savannah offers 10% to productions that are filmed within a 40-mile radius of the city and Liberty County is included! Our amenities draw these hard-working people in and the 40% tax incentive is a very sweet bonus.
