The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce has close to 500 AMAZING members. They add a great amount of value to Liberty County and the surrounding area. Each member brings something special to our chamber family, and we want to take time to highlight our members by telling their stories. Our non-profit members are just as important to us as our regular business members. Liberty County non-profits do a lot of good work in our community, and we are happy to highlight Fraser Counseling Center!
What is Fraser Counseling Center?
Fraser Counseling Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-denominational, faith-based organization that offers behavioral health services for individuals and families. They offer counseling, education, consulting and recovery services for people living in the Liberty County & Ft. Stewart areas. They also offer assistance with addiction recovery in addition to education and outreach for individuals and community organizations.
They believe the healing of body, mind and spirit is accomplished with the help of caring people. Their mission is to enrich the lives of all who come to them – individuals and families- by providing professional counseling, community education and emotional support within a Christian environment.
What brought Fraser Counseling Center to Liberty County?
In 1986, Dr. Whitman Fraser, a local physician and pioneer of holistic healthcare in Liberty County, established The Mary Lou Fraser Foundation for Families, Inc. in memory of his late wife. Dr. Fraser had a vision of providing the people of Liberty County affordable, whole-person care, regardless of race, gender or socioeconomic status.

What makes them different than other medical services?
In addition to accepting most private insurance, the center operates on a sliding fee scale basis for those that are without insurance and must pay out-of-pocket. They also support other health-related community organizations and provide services and facilities without charge on a regular basis.
Dr. Fraser’s vision expanded
In addition to the Fraser Counseling Center, Helen’s Haven Children’s Advocacy Center and the Liberty County YMCA are also the products of Dr.Fraser’s vision. Helen’s Haven Children’s Advocacy Center has the goal of providing all children in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit with increased community resources in order to sustain positive health through emotional and physical supports. They also strive to reduce the trauma of youth in a safe child-friendly environment for the evaluation of suspected child abuse and provide supported healing to the client and non-offending caregivers.
The Liberty County YMCA is a part of the YMCA of Coastal Georgia network. They have been serving the Coastal Georgia community for over 160 years, and continue to work every day to strengthen the community through three areas of focus: youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The YMCA offers programs such as its before and after school program known as YBASE, operating in elementary and middle schools throughout the community. They serve men and women, girls and boys of all ages and from all walks of life regardless of the ability to pay. The YMCA is guided by its four core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
