National Country Cooking Month in Liberty County

Here in the South, we believe that food is an experience. For many, the delicious smells and familiar sounds of the kitchen are enough to make us think back on fond memories and special moments in our lives. The tradition of food down here is incredible, and we think all food is good food! Everyone is family around the dinner table, and there’s nothing better than coming together over a good meal!

In honor of National Country Cooking Month, we decided to highlight some of our favorite local places to enjoy a classic, southern meal. If it’s comfort food you’re craving, then look no further! We’ve got plenty of good cookin’ to go around!

Izola’s  serves up traditional southern recipes with a welcoming atmosphere. It’s no surprise they are a local favorite! From cheese grits & beef sausage to fried chicken & collard greens, Izola’s has got you covered with breakfast, lunch and dinner menus filled with country classics.

This cafeteria-style buffet even went viral on TikTok for their mouthwatering videos and ooey gooey mac-n-cheese. People travel from all around the nation to try this famous recipe thanks to their catchy slogan “Scoop that mac!”

Izola’s offers a variety of foods and changes their menu out regularly, so you can always try something new. Check out their Facebook page to see their daily selections, and be sure to bring your appetite!

Margie’s Southern Cooking

Another Liberty County favorite is Margie’s Southern Cooking! You can’t miss their bright, yellow trailer with big red letters, and this award-winning food truck is parked permanently in Walthourville on Shaw Road. Try one of their delicious breakfast bowls for a yummy meal on the go, or pick up a dinner plate for an easy dinner option. Margie’s offers different lunch and dinner menus every day, so you can try a new meal throughout the week to get a crash-course in southern classics.

Popular among locals and tourists alike, this kitchen prides itself on made-to-order food and hefty portions. In fact, they recently opened a second location on Highway 84 going towards Walthourville called Margie’s Southern Cooking 2!

Margie’s serves up traditional southern dishes just like grandma used to make. Ox tails, candied yams, cornbread and black-eyed peas are just a few of the things gracing their menu. At Margie’s, you can expect to find southern cooking done right. Their first location was even featured on Explore Georgia’s Food Truck Flavor Tour in 2017!
