The Best Spots to Launch a Kayak in Liberty County
Summer is so close that we can almost taste it, and that means it’s time to go outside and get some sun. Outdoor activities are the best thing to do whenever it gets hot, especially with a large body of water nearby. If you didn’t know, Liberty County is located on the intracoastal waterway, and kayaking is one of our favorite activities! Here are the best spots to launch your kayak, so that you can sit back and let the creeks and rivers guide you along. Check them out below!
Jones Creek Park
2059 Isle of Wight Road, Midway GA
Right before you cross the bridge onto Isle of Wight in Midway, you’ll find a beautiful park that has a small landing with access to the water. We’re a little bias, because Jones Creek Park is one of our personal favorite spots! Whether you have very little kayaking experience or if you’re a seasoned pro, you’ll enjoy putting in here and paddling around. The best way to enjoy kayaking at Jones Creek Park is to pack a cooler and venture out to a sandbar. This is a tidal creek, so you’ll want to download the Tides Near Me app and set your location as St. Catherines Island to make sure that you don’t get stuck dragging your kayak through the mud! We suggest that you stay out here until sunset, because they’re remarkable at this spot!
Riceboro Dock
Interstate Paper Road, Riceboro GA
If you turn off of Highway 17 in Riceboro, you’ll find a quaint little public dock and pier. We like to think that the Riceboro dock is one of their many hidden gems! Many locals frequent this location because it’s a great fishing spot, so don’t forget your rod and reel when you make your way out there! If you launch your kayak here, you’ll be able to enjoy the day paddling on the water and catch some delicious fish for dinner too. If you plan to launch here don’t forget to pack your sunscreen!
Sunbury Boat Ramp
3295 Ft. Morris Road, Midway GA
The public dock in Sunbury is another favorite spot to enjoy the coastal views and go fishing. You have the opportunity to launch your kayak here, so paddling around is the icing on the cake! It’s perfectly fine to come here if you don’t own a kayak. The Sunbury Crab Company is right down the road, and you can rent one from them! This means anyone can enjoy a beautiful day paddling out in the salt water. Sunbury has direct access to the intracoastal waterway, so you’ll want to have the Tides Near Me app handy when you visit here too.
Kayaking at this spot allows you to venture through the marsh, relax in the sun and maybe even see a school of dolphins. The beautiful mammals tend to frequent this area, so keep your eyes open! Once you’ve finished your coastal adventure, make your way back up to the Sunbury Crab Company and enjoy fresh seafood, a cold beverage and maybe even some live music. Call ahead and make a reservation though, because they fill up fast!
Kayaking in Liberty County is definitely worth the experience, so grab your friends, pack a cooler and pick one of these spots to #ExploreLiberty! Don’t forget to download Tides Near Me to ensure that you get the best possible experience.
