What’s Blooming in Liberty County? Seasonal Flowers by Month
No matter the time of year, Liberty County is full of colorful flowers that brighten every corner. From spring to winter, each season brings its own unique blooms in a variety of shapes and sizes. We wanted to give y’all a heads-up on which flowers are popping up so you can catch the county at its most vibrant. Keep reading to see what’s in bloom throughout the year!
Fall Blooms
Rhododendrons look a lot like azaleas, and they’re often mistaken for each other! The main difference is their leaves, which are generally larger and have a leathery texture. These flowers need soil that strikes the perfect balance between dry and wet to keep their leaves big and green year-round. Each fall, they start blooming in bright, flower-filled clusters, adding vibrant color to Liberty County gardens.
Winter Blooms
Camellias are some of our favorite winter flowers. They brighten gardens and yards when the weather turns chilly and are often called the Queen of Winter Flowers! These evergreen shrubs bloom in shades of red, pink and white, adding a touch of cheer to even the coldest days.
Spring Blooms
Azaleas are often called the South’s favorite shrubs, and it’s easy to see why—they pop up almost everywhere you look! For the best results, plant them in partial sun or filtered shade. Too much sun can bleach or burn the leaves, while too little can make the plant lanky and prevent it from blooming. During springtime in Liberty County, keep an eye out for these colorful, cheerful shrubs brightening the landscape.
Lantana is a unique, vine-like flower that sprawls from woody branches. They’re perfect for ground cover because they thrive in full sunlight and warm weather, producing round clusters of small, vibrant blooms. You’ll often see them in hanging baskets too, adding a cheerful pop of color to porches and gardens throughout Liberty County during the summer months.
Wisteria is covered in delicate baby blue and lilac-colored flowers that bloom on long, twisting vines—sometimes reaching up to 30 feet! These beautiful blooms appear from late spring to early summer, creating a stunning display. Just be careful when planting, as wisteria can grow aggressively and quickly take over the space it’s in, so avoid placing it too close to your home.
Confederate Jasmine is made up of tiny white flowers that climb up live oak trees on delicate vines. It thrives in both sun and shade, but you’ll see the most blooms when it’s in a sunnier spot. This fragrant flower makes a beautiful addition to fences, patios, porches and more.
Summer Blooms

The Cherokee Rose is Georgia’s state flower, and it blooms each summer in Liberty County! These high-climbing shrubs can reach stems up to 20 feet long. Beyond their beauty, they carry history—the flowers represent the removal of the Cherokee tribe from Georgia in the mid-1800s, growing along the route the Cherokee people traveled west to the Oklahoma territories. Their blooming season is short, usually from late March into April, so be sure to catch these stunning flowers before they disappear.
The Rose of Sharon is another summer favorite, producing abundant blooms throughout the season. With its upright vase shape, multiple branches and thick green leaves, it adds structure and color to any garden. Each flower has five petals and comes in a variety of colors, making it a versatile choice for Liberty County landscapes. As it matures, the Rose of Sharon becomes low-maintenance and handles heat and drought with ease, keeping your garden bright all summer long.
Hydrangeas are no doubt one of our favorite perennial plants. Their beauty and elegance have made them a Southern staple! They thrive in Liberty County because they’re easy to care for and can tolerate most types of soil. When hydrangeas are in full bloom, it’s our sign that summer has officially arrived.
