3 Perfect Ways to Spend a Day in Liberty County

ITINERARY 1

Morning

  • Grab breakfast at the Sunbury Coffee Bar, one of the newest spots in downtown Hinesville. They have delicious pastries and coffee to fuel your day.
  • Head to Bryant Commons Park to enjoy the walking trails or fish in the catch-and-release ponds.
  • While at Bryant Commons visit the ITPA Telephone Museum, which features a large collection of historic telephones and equipment.
  • After your busy morning, stop by baldino’s Giant Jersey Subs for your favorite sandwich.

  • Start your afternoon with some shopping at one of our favorites, Martin Mercantile. They have local handmade items, and you can always find something special and unique here.
  • Finish your day with authentic German food at Zum Rosenhof. This is an experience you don’t want to miss. The food is amazing and the desserts are equally delicious.
  • End your evening with drinks and a good time at The Parrot & Frog. They always have cold beer and cocktails waiting.inside of a store

ITINERARY 2

Morning

  • Start your morning with a 0.7-mile walk along the boardwalk at Cay Creek Wetlands Interpretive Center where there are both freshwater swamps and saltwater creeks. Enjoy the wildlife viewing platform, interpretive panels and 6 different ecosystems all on your morning walk
  • Next, head to the historic site at Fort Morris. Here you will learn about the colonial port of Sunbury and the site’s history. You can even stand within original mounds and trenches used to protect soldiers and view scenic Saint Catherines Sound.
  • Eat lunch at Melody’s Coastal Cafe where everyone in the family can find something they’ll enjoy. Not sure what to get? We recommend the fried shrimp tacos or the homemade Jersey-style pizza.

Afternoon

  • After lunch, continue your outdoor adventure at Susie King Taylor Freedom Park at Jones Creek. This is the perfect spot to kayak. There is a small landing with easy water access, making it a perfect spot for beginners and experienced kayakers.
  • For dinner, make a reservation a few days in advance so you can enjoy fresh seafood at the Sunbury Crab Company. They serve fresh-caught blue crab and oysters along with a variety of seafood dishes. If seafood isn’t your thing, they also offer burgers and steaks.
  • After dinner, head to the Sunbury Boat Ramp and enjoy watching the coastal sunset from the pier.

ITINERARY 3

Morning

  • Start your morning with a gourmet shake or energy tea from The Spot Nutrition. If you’re looking for something more filling, try one of their delicious acai bowls.
  • Next head to Dawson’s General Store, a local favorite. They have a little bit of everything for the family, hardware and hunting accessories and a boutique for the ladies in the back.
  • While you’re on that side of town, stop by the Walthourville Meat Market. This locally owned business offers fresh meats, poultry, beef, fish and much more!
  • On your way back home, grab a quick bite at The Gyro Shop to fuel up before your busy afternoon. We highly recommend the Greek nachos.

  • Head onto base by stopping at the Fort Stewart Visitor Center to obtain a visitor pass and visit the 3rd Infantry Division Museum. The museum shows the origins of Camp Stewart and its progression into Fort Stewart.
  • While on base, don’t forget to visit Warriors Walk. This walkway honors the soldiers and attached units of the 3rd Infantry Division who served in operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
  • Finish your day with dinner at El Mezcal Mexican restaurant, where you can enjoy delicious tacos and refreshing margaritas.
