5 Things To Do Without Snow

We are officially at the point that we can start enjoying winter. Some areas around the country are experiencing super-low temperatures with snow already! In Liberty County, we’re still at a pleasant 75 degrees and snow isn’t something we normally get prepared for. So here’s a list of 5 things to do without snow if you happen to be visiting us this holiday season!

1. Make a Pot of Low Country Boil

If you’ve ever been to the South, especially to a coastal community like Liberty County, you will have discovered that fresh seafood is more than just a menu item, it’s a way of life. Crabbing, fishing and shrimping are not only favorite pastimes around here but also a major influence on the foods we eat, plus how we prepare and share those delectable bites. Nothing says southern quite like a big ole steaming pot of low country boil and it’s definitely not a meal to pass up on any time you’re offered! Get your boiling pot ready and prepare to make a Liberty County Low Country Boil.

2. Bonfires!

Even though it’s not super cold outside, it’s definitely nice enough to have bonfires with some friends and family. You can tell old stories, pick the guitar and relax with a cold beverage. Sit back and enjoy that picture perfect coastal sunset while being warmed by a beautiful fall bonfire. Cold beverages not your cup of tea? Warm up with one of our favorite beverages straight from Germany.

3. Visit Cay Creek Wetlands Interpretive Center!

Located in Midway, Cay Creek Wetlands Interpretive Center is an excellent example of tidal and freshwater wetlands, which provides a unique opportunity for education and appreciation. This area is rich in diversity-bay, cypress and oak trees are abundant, as well as palms, palmettos and magnolias. Look for the low earthen beams that cross the landscape to find the remains of dikes that were used to hold water onto flooded fields as rice grew and search for the species of numerous animals that live in this area. You can tour the area during the hours of 9am-7:30pm in Midway.

4. Book a Hunt with Dorchester Shooting Preserve

Dorchester Shooting Preserve is a 5,000-acre hunting hotspot, located just outside of Midway. One of the biggest highlights of the property are the bird hunting options which include quail and pheasant. Hunters can enjoy half-day or full-day hunts complete with well-trained hunting dogs and guides to assist. No matter if you prefer hunting, fishing or simply getting back to the basics in the great outdoors, Dorchester Shooting Preserve definitely has plenty of options to enjoy. 5. Go for a kayaking adventure!

Head down to the coast and visit the Sunbury Crab Company to rent a kayak and enjoy a beautiful day on the water. This spot has direct access to the Intracoastal waterway, so be sure to watch out for the tides. You can venture through the marsh and relax in the sun on a beautiful day. Come back and order some fresh seafood and a cold beverage when you’re done!

We are so excited to have you #Exploreliberty with us and enjoy some of the same hobbies we do! After a long day of adventures you can find our guide to our favorite restaurants or stop in for a nice cold beer at a local hangout.
