The Midway Museum is a reproduction of an 18th-century plantation cottage constructed in 1959. The Museum is staged as an early 18th-century home and contains original furnishings, artwork, documents, jewelry, clothing and much more! Visit the Midway Museum for a glimpse of what life may have been like in the early days of St. John’s Parish (Liberty County).

 

#6 Sunbury Cemetery

Venture out to the coastal area of our community for a look at the Sunbury Cemetery. This place is significant in our local history because it is the final resting ground of many of coastal Georgia’s early residents, some of whom have descendants that still live in the area to this day!

 

#5 Fort Morris

If you’re a history buff, visit our state historic site, Fort Morris, on the county’s east end. Here you can walk the grounds once filled with soldiers standing their ground and eventually deterring the enemy forces during the American Revolution. As you explore the grounds, you will also catch a glimpse of the St. Catherine’s Sound.

 

#4 Cay Creek Wetlands

Liberty County has no shortage of lush & beautiful marshland to explore, with Cay Creek Wetlands Interpretive Center providing a journey through fresh and saltwater ecosystems. This trail is 7/10 of a mile and filled with stunning wildlife and plants.
