The Liberty County Convention & Visitors Bureau Explained

The tourism industry plays a big part in communities both urban and rural all over the United States. Locally we depend on the industry for a variety of things such as highlighting and promoting our historic sites, as well as encouraging visitors to take a vacation in Liberty County. The Liberty County Convention & Visitors Bureau (LCCVB) leads the way by promoting our community. Together with the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce, we’re a combined office of six (with a fabulous part-time volunteer). Through their extensive partnerships, they attract new and returning travelers to Liberty County.

What is a CVB

The LCCVB is the unsung hero of our community! Their job is to promote Liberty County through various means such as advertisements on billboards, social media posts and travel guides. Most of the work is done outside of the county in places like South Carolina and Florida, since their goal is to attract new people to the area. They are always busy behind the scenes creating new ideas and informing future visitors what makes our county a must-visit destination.

How Tourism Impacts You

There are many ways in which tourism has a positive impact on our community. In 2021 Liberty County tourism generated about $9 million in state and local taxes, and as a result, residents received almost $400 in tax savings. When people visit, they eat at our local restaurants, stay in our hotels, shop with local retailers and then return home. They don’t require long-term services provided by our county.

Film in Liberty County

Everyone wants to vacation in “hotspot” locations where they’ve seen their favorite celebrities visit. Over the years we have been very fortunate to be chosen as a location for film.  Some of the country’s biggest movie and TV hits have been filmed right here in our backyard. For a full list be sure to check out our Film in Liberty County blog.

  • The Color Purple Musical (2023) from Executive Producers Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg!
  • A Jazzman’s Blues (2022) produced by Tyler Perry. A cool fact about this project is that there are a few scenes featuring the Bacon Fraser House.
  • Halloween Ends (2022) featuring Jamie Lee Curtis.
  • Manhunt (2022) an Apple TV limited series.
  • The Menu (2022) was filmed on Hampton Island in Riceboro.

While the LCCVB doesn’t tell the showbiz industry where to film, they do an excellent job of highlighting our community from the coast of Sunbury to the farmlands of Gumbranch which makes us a desirable location. The next time you watch one of the films listed above see if you recognize any of the locations or any familiar faces mixed in with the extras.
